Baulkham Hills is one of the best known suburbs in the Hills District, and it lives up to the name. The terrain rolls and rises across the whole suburb, and the blocks that go with it tend to be genuinely generous, family-sized properties built up from the 1970s through the 90s, many with sizeable backyards that have never quite been finished off. The suburb sits close to the Hills Shire's main shopping and business precincts, but a lot of the older residential streets still have that established, leafy, slightly hilly character the area's known for.

Bigger blocks and sloping ground open up options that a small flat yard just doesn't have, room for a proper retaining wall and terraced garden, a deck that actually catches the view, or a pergola and outdoor kitchen set up as one connected space. The trick is designing for the slope and the size of the block, rather than squeezing in something that would suit a much smaller property.
